a great method to learn charango.

This method aims to enable the student to acquire a quite good technique to play the traditional charango repertory. People interested to develop advanced technique I recomend the Federico Tarazona's method.This is a quite great method, both for beginners and intermediate level of charango players. The chapters 1 to 5 are really excellent. Explanations about rhythms and strumming patterns (chapter 1), strummed tremolo (chapter 3), repiques (chapter 4) and additional rhytmic patterns are disposed in progressive exercises and it will fullfill the basic requirements to acquire a good technique. Chapter 2 aims to melodic exercises related to arpeggios, basic scales and ornaments. The only backdraw of this method is the chapter 6, aiming a repertory. The organization of repertory is in disarray. There is no clear organization in a progressive fashion to the tunes and sheet music are disposed in a different sequence than the recordings. Additionally, the transcription of the compositions are in some cases quite distinct to the recordings. In other cases the transcriptions contains errors related to compass and rhythm. Some rhythmic figures are clearly misinterpreted by the transcriptor. Two tunes, Tonada Triste and Escarcha y sol were written to be played in Ronroco (a baritone charango in Em7), but the scores transcription are to a charango (Am7). It appears that the score follows a tablature and the notes dispose were written to indicate the position in the fingerboard . Despite this problems in Repertoire chapter, I think this method is excelent,and it will be clearly better if this problems will be solved.

Helpful book - but for the audio download.

I think this is a helpful book - all the more so because it is translated into English and the exercises (at least the ones I've tackled so far) are very clear. HOWEVER, when I downloaded the audio exercises from the Mel Bay website and began to work on them, i realized that there are several missing - 143 to be exact! I am not sure if they were merely mis-numbered or if they are actually missing. I just emailed Mel Bay to request a copy of the cd. More on that, if I hear from them.

About the Author
Scott Coplan, PMP,  is a project manager, educator, author, and speaker on project management best practices. He is the founder and president of COPLAN AND COMPANY, a project management software and services firm.  Scott managed EHR requirements definition and acquisition for a national specialty healthcare firm's multiple facilities and oversaw implementing over nine financial, administrative and clinical applications at three separate Los Angeles County, California hospitals in both in-patient and ambulatory settings.  He also holds faculty positions at the University of Washington Schools of Public Health and Medicine, where he teaches healthcare project management. 
David Masuda, M.D., is a physician and educator at the University of Washington. During the past 10 years, he developed and delivered courses in clinical care and applied clinical informatics for certificate, masters, and doctoral programs in health administration, medicine, and nursing.  He currently develops distance-learning approaches for healthcare higher education.

Must read for Healthcare CIOs

In their book, Project Management for Healthcare Information Technology, Coplan and Masuda have proposed that the successful implementation of projects in health care require the synthesis of three methodologies: project management, information technology management (product management) and change management. The first two methodologies are codified in the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK). The third methodology does not have a formalized document outlining the process for introducing and implementing change in an organization; rather, it relies on theories and practices from the disciplines of organizational behavior and organizational development. They reason that the complexity of the health care environment and the importance of "buy in" of all of the parties to the implementation of new technology in the health care setting require that projects draw on all three methodologies.
The structure of this book enhances the message that the authors are communicating. Each chapter begins with a clear statement of the learning objectives. These objectives are then discussed in a logical order and build upon each other. The narrative is enhanced by multiple quotes from six project leaders in world renown health care organizations describing their understanding of the concepts presented in the text. Finally, each chapter ends with a conclusion summarizing the concepts from the chapter and providing endnotes with further information on the topics covered. The chapters cover each methodology in detail. Thus, making it possible to skip areas that the reader feels that they have fully mastered and permitting them to focus on the methodologies that they need to understand in further depth. The Appendix is a graphic model of the fully integrated methodology for health information project management. It illustrates how each of the three disciplines fit into the five basic process groups in a project: initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing. This is a fitting conclusion to this comprehensive work on project management for health care information technology.

Yes - This Is It

I like the "this is it" review and agree 100%. I have now used the books approach on several projects with success. PMBOK does not address the Change Management piece and this is where the fail/succeed of projects falls. It is also one of a handful of books that I now have both the Kindle and print edition. The overall framework also works well in non-HIT and merger integration - as in any framework/methodology, tailoring to the project is essential, and this book has it covered.

Great to have the "People side" elevated to equal status with project management and IT management in the real "triple constraint" of healthcare IT. By addressing the communications required to change human behavior, Coplan and Masuda have not only moved Change Management to the forefront of the healthcare IT discussion, they also provide a methodology for Change Management that incorporates the "Knowledge Areas by Process Group" structure familiar to all project managers.

A MUST READ for anyone struggling to effectively address the "people side" of their projects or wanting to AVOID these pitfalls by effectively incorporating a Change Management Plan into their healthcare IT project.

The First Great Awakening was a time of heightened religious activity in the colonial New England. Among those whom the English settlers tried to convert to Christianity were the region's native peoples. In this book, Linford Fisher tells the gripping story of American Indians' attempts to wrestle with the ongoing realities of colonialism between the 1670s and 1820. In particular, he looks at how some members of previously unevangelized Indian communities in Connecticut, Rhode Island, western Massachusetts, and Long Island adopted Christian practices, often joining local Congregational churches and receiving baptism. Far from passively sliding into the cultural and physical landscape after King Philip's War, he argues, Native individuals and communities actively tapped into transatlantic structures of power to protect their land rights, welcomed educational opportunities for their children, and joined local white churches. Religion repeatedly stood at the center of these points of cultural engagement, often in hotly contested ways. Although these Native groups had successfully resisted evangelization in the seventeenth century, by the eighteenth century they showed an increasing interest in education and religion. Their sporadic participation in the First Great Awakening marked a continuation of prior forms of cultural engagement. More surprisingly, however, in the decades after the Awakening, Native individuals and sub-groups asserted their religious and cultural autonomy to even greater degrees by leaving English churches and forming their own Indian Separate churches. In the realm of education, too, Natives increasingly took control, preferring local reservation schools and demanding Indian teachers whenever possible. In the 1780s, two small groups of Christian Indians moved to New York and founded new Christian Indian settlements. But the majority of New England Natives-even those who affiliated with Christianity-chose to remain in New England, continuing to assert their own autonomous existence through leasing land, farming, and working on and off the reservations.

While Indian involvement in the Great Awakening has often been seen as total and complete conversion, Fisher's analysis of church records, court documents, and correspondence reveals a more complex reality. Placing the Awakening in context of land loss and the ongoing struggle for cultural autonomy in the eighteenth century casts it as another step in the ongoing, tentative engagement of native peoples with Christian ideas and institutions in the colonial world. Charting this untold story of the Great Awakening and the resultant rise of an Indian Separatism and its effects on Indian cultures as a whole, this gracefully written book challenges long-held notions about religion and Native-Anglo-American interaction

The Indian Great Awakening

This book is an excellent source for information about the Christian missionary movements in New England among the Indians. It has great coverage of the Native ministers and their work with the people. I liked the way he covered each issue and mentioned the ways Native people chose to continue to express their culture. It is a good read even if you are not a historian or anthropoligist. Wonderfully researched and pulled together into a narrative. Look forward to the next offering from this author.
