Typical McGraw-Hill Handbook

Like most other McGaw-Hill handbooks this is a collection of articles, which for the most part, have been written by equipment manufacturers. The information is often thin and superfical. Some areas of the book are so simplistic they're laughable. For example, among the "Rules of Thumb" there is this enlightening suggestion: " Understand the process before designing a control system for that process". Also there is this jem " Design the control system before implementing the control system". Still, the book isn't all bad. There is some good information here but it isn't consistent. I doubt there is enough useful information to justify the cost of this very expensive book.

This is one of O'Casey's finest plays. It is tragedy set in a tenement during the 1916 rising. The inhabitants of these tenements and there were many in Dublin, lived in abject poverty. Yet they maintained a quiet dignity and sense of humour . They also looked out for each as much as they could, despite rivalries between the various characters in the play. It is the first play I had ever seen. It was staged in the Abbey Theatre around 1970. I would urge people to read the play, but better still, to see a production on stage. No other play invokes the desperation and hopes of poor Dubliners during the 1916 rising. If you enjoyed reading this play, I would urge you to read Juno and the Paycock. This play, also written by O'Casey, is also set in a Dublin tenement during the Irish civil war.

About the Author
H. JONATHAN CHAO, PhD, earned his doctorate at The Ohio State University. Since 1992 he has been Professor of Electrical Engineering at Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York and conducts research in terabit ATM switches and IP routers, quality of service control, and photonic packet switching. He was co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Coree Networks Inc., building a terabit IP/MPLS switch router. Between 1985 and 1992 he was a member of technical staff at Telcordia in New Jersey. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and has published widely in the above subjects.
CHEUK H. LAM, PhD, earned his doctorate at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a member of the technical staff at Lucent Technologies Inc., Landover, Maryland.
EIJI OKI, PhD, earned his doctorate at Keio University, Yokohama, Japan. He is a research engineer at NTT Network Service Systems Laboratories, Tokyo. In 2000 he was a visiting scholar at Polytechnic University.

a seduction in Old Cairo

With Old Cairo as the back drop, the story unfolds with the sepia-tinted aura of early 20th century British imperialism, to it the author added the intrigue of the criminal world and then embellished with the poetic story telling reminiscent of Sheherazade's. The end result is a seduction of a young man not just by sweet words but also by forceful vigor. Well-written and so very enjoyable, it deserves a place among the ebooks.
